Shipping for Sellers
Learn about shipping requirements, carrier options, label creation, and how to ship firearms safely and legally.
Shipping Requirements for Firearms
All firearms sold on WeaponDepot must be shipped from a licensed FFL dealer to another licensed FFL dealer. This is a federal requirement that applies to all interstate firearms transactions. Handguns must be shipped via a common carrier such as UPS or FedEx and cannot be shipped through the United States Postal Service (USPS). Rifles and shotguns may be shipped via USPS for intrastate shipments or via common carriers for interstate shipments. When shipping firearms through UPS or FedEx, you are required to declare that the package contains a firearm. Do not mark the outside of the package with any indication that it contains a firearm. Ship only to the business address of the receiving FFL dealer, never to a residential address.
Packaging and Labeling
Proper packaging is essential to protect the item during transit and to comply with carrier requirements. Remove any ammunition from the firearm and ship it separately (ammunition has its own shipping regulations). Place the firearm in its original box or a sturdy hard case, then pack it inside a plain outer shipping box with adequate cushioning material. The outer box should not indicate that it contains a firearm. Include a copy of both the sending and receiving FFL licenses inside the package. Use a shipping label generated through your WeaponDepot seller dashboard or directly through your carrier account. Add tracking information to the order so the buyer can monitor the shipment's progress.
Shipping Non-Firearm Items
Non-firearm items such as accessories, parts, optics, and ammunition have different shipping requirements. Most accessories and parts can be shipped via any carrier including USPS to the buyer's home address. Ammunition is classified as a hazardous material (ORM-D or Limited Quantity) and must be shipped via ground service only. Ammunition cannot be shipped by air. When shipping ammunition, the package must be properly labeled with ORM-D or Limited Quantity markings. Some states have restrictions on shipping ammunition directly to consumers, so check the buyer's state regulations before shipping. Always use sturdy packaging with adequate cushioning to prevent damage during transit.
