How to List an Item for Sale

Step-by-step guide to creating listings on WeaponDepot, including photos, descriptions, pricing, and shipping settings.

Creating Your First Listing

To list an item for sale on WeaponDepot, navigate to the Sell page from the top navigation bar. You will be presented with a listing form that guides you through each step of the process. Start by selecting your listing type: Fixed Price for items you want to sell at a set price, or Auction for items you want to let buyers bid on. Fixed-price listings are simpler to manage and ideal for items with well-established market values. Auction listings can generate competitive bidding and sometimes result in higher sale prices for rare or collectible items.

Writing an Effective Title and Description

Your listing title is the first thing buyers see in search results, so make it descriptive and keyword-rich. Include the manufacturer, model, caliber, and condition in the title. For example, 'Glock 19 Gen5 9mm - Like New in Box' is far more effective than 'Handgun for Sale.' In the description, provide every detail a buyer would want to know: the exact model number, serial number prefix (never share the full serial number publicly), caliber or gauge, barrel length, overall length, weight, capacity, finish or color, any modifications or accessories included, and the item's condition. Be honest and thorough. Disclosing any wear, scratches, or mechanical issues upfront builds trust and reduces disputes after the sale.

Uploading Photos

High-quality photos are one of the most important factors in selling your item quickly and at a good price. WeaponDepot allows you to upload up to 10 photos per listing. Use well-lit, high-resolution images taken against a clean, neutral background. Include photos from multiple angles: left side, right side, top, bottom, muzzle, and any markings or engravings. For used items, photograph any wear, scratches, or imperfections so buyers know exactly what they are getting. Close-up shots of the bore, chamber, and any accessories included in the sale are also valuable. Avoid using stock photos or images from other sources, as buyers expect to see the actual item they are purchasing.

Setting Your Price and Shipping

Research comparable listings on WeaponDepot and other marketplaces to set a competitive price. For fixed-price listings, consider what similar items in the same condition have recently sold for. For auctions, set a starting bid that will attract initial interest and consider using a reserve price to protect your minimum acceptable sale price. When configuring shipping, remember that all firearms must be shipped FFL-to-FFL through UPS or FedEx (handguns cannot use USPS). Calculate your shipping costs based on the item's weight, dimensions, and destination. You can offer flat-rate shipping, calculated shipping based on buyer location, or free shipping (built into the item price). Clearly state your handling time so buyers know when to expect their item to ship after payment is received.
